People Tree Love Emma
tree_emma.jpg
Launching in late February 2010, this exciting, long awaited collection brings a youthful and inspiring edge to Fair Trade fashion! "I wanted to help People Tree produce a younger range because I was excited by the idea of using fashion as a tool to alleviate poverty and knew it was something I could help make a difference with. It has been the most incredible gap year project." Emma Watson Acting as creative advisor, Emma has worked closely with People Tree's in house design team and CEO Safia Minney to create a capsule lifestyle collection. Emma has utilised her love of fashion, great personal style and young perspective to help develop a range that will bring Fair Trade and organic fashion to a new audience. Clean and easy to wear - Emma Watson and People Tree have created a cool collection boasting a range of jersey t-shirts, dresses, woven skirts, trousers, shorts and knitwear for both men and women. Bohemian hand embroidered bed throws, recycled sweetie paper jewellery, banana fibre slouchy beanies and head scarves add innovative fashion and home accessories to the collection. Not only does the collection use 100% organic and Fairtrade certified cotton, it is also made entirely by Fair Trade groups by hand, using hand weaving, hand knitting and hand embroidery to create livelihoods for some of the most disadvantaged people in India, Bangladesh and Nepal. "I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices but there aren't many options out there." Emma Watson You've heard the rumour, now you've got the facts - you'll just have to wait a little bit longer to make that special purchase! People Tree collaborates with Emma Watson |

lol That seems cool but I'm remembering her quote about famous people working on fashion collections... She really should think twice about she says, lately all she does is contradicting herself.

She said she wouldn't do a perfume line. She said she would do something for fashion if it was the right cause, not just because it's a celeb thing.
This is a great cause so she's not backtracking at all. Was it the DM or News of the World who broke this. I knew there was too much detail in the tabloid article for this not to be true. I can't wait to see what she comes out with! I really admire the trio and all their good causes they work for. They don't have to do anything but they do. |

Not really, she said that she not going to design a line under her name, and she did said that if it for a charity she will help (or something like that).

Oh, I didn't remember that she said that about charity. But to me a celebrity being a "creative advisor" is even worse than being the face of the collection, since there are loads of people out there who spend years studying for that. She's doing exactly what other people she criticized do, except this one is a good cause. It's still the same action, and gives publicity to the celebrity (which supposedly is something she doesn't want nowadays).
Even though I think it was a stupid thing for Emma to say, it's good that she's doing that. As long as she doesn't keep talking about the "anonymous" crap and critizing celebrities in the most random things, that she ends up doing anyway. |

Here the full quote from WWD interview:
Unlike many of her famous peers, Watson says she has no plans to do her own line. “I’m really not interested in doing it for my own ego. I’m not a designer,” she says matter-of-factly. “If someone asked me to do something that was beneficial to a cause, then maybe I’d consider it, but not just [to be able to say] ‘Look at me! I’ve got my own line!’” “[It’s] gotten so ridiculous,” she continues. “The idea of making my own perfume makes me want to vomit.” Doesn't matter if she just help adding color or help design the whole collection they WILL uses her name no matter how little she help out. That's just marketing.

I don't remember her saying anything negative about fashion and charity work or people doing that kind of stuff.
And this has nothing to do with college. It's easy to see where this negativity is coming from. People will benefit from this which is a very good thing. I think if people truely understood what kind of poverty people lived in, they would shut up when something good happened for the poor. |

That is a great pic. She looks beautiful, as do the rest.
The Guardian: The Guardian I wonder if the earlier tabloid article was true about it being sold in Topshop? |

I'm not sure why anyone would find something negative to say about this, love her or loathe her. We're all entitled to change our minds and for something like this, what a great reason.
I've been bending people's ears about Fair Trade products for years now, encouraging friends and family to buy Fair Trade because if you don't, you could be supporting child and/or slave labour and sweat shops in LED countries. Well done Emma and everyone else who's taking a stand on this. |

I think it's great too. A friend of mine just came back from Capetown and it's such a reality check to see the pictures of what people live in.
It sounds like people tree just heard what Emma said about a clothing line for charity and introduced a concept to her. I really hope this makes money for people tree. Just imagine if HP sites got behind this. I guess she worked on this during her gap year, when she was going to those fashion shows. It has a southern France style to it as well. Did Dan leak something again when he mentioned how he liked her designs? Lol. Got to love him. http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Sho...Sale_Next_Year |

I think it's good too. But I don't think they thought of Emma after what she said about charity, I think she was already involved in it and it was a way to talk about it without really talking about it.

What happened to anonymity? lmao Oh well. It would be nicer if she wore Fair Trade products in public, and not just Chanel and Burberry and stuff.
But, to people who asked why people would complain about her helping the poor? No one is bashing her in the SLIGHTEST for helping those in poverty. It's fantastic to see her using her celebrity for something that will help against something that affects so many people in such horrible ways. I applaud her for it. I really do. But I think people are simply pointing out she's contradicting herself, but in this case? That's not what matters. If she's going to go back on what she said for ANYTHING, such a worthy cause is a good enough reason. |

If she'd do any kind of designing thing, this is a wonderful cause. We know that emma is interested in sustainable development and fair trade as well as clothes, so I really look forward to see the result! At least she's picking her side projects with brains and heart unlike some other actresses...

In all honesty, she probably won't be designing anything, if she hasn't done it all already. At most, they'll run it by her, she'll say something, and then they'll just attach her name to it. That's probably all that happened, if it's already done. "Creative advisor" is another word for she gave an opinion or two and they attached her name.
Still, as tacky as it would NORMALLY be, it's for a great cause. Attaching her name to something like that is an excellent thing. |

If HP fans would really support this, I can't help get excited to think the money/projects that will help these people. It's just really cool. Fashion week publicity will help get the word out. |

People are perfectly entitled to call her a hypocrite. I mean, it's a forum. It's not life or world changing if they say she's a hypocrite.
